This was a wonderful opportunity to network with Kentuckians and to meet our new president, Sean Riddle. Sean has been very active with the University of Kentucky Alumni Association and is enthusiastically taking on additional responsibilities to bring all Kentuckians together.
We were privileged to have as our guest speaker Paul E. Patton, former Governor of Kentucky. Governor Patton was elected Governor in 1995 and re-elected in 1999, the first Governor in Kentucky elected to a second consecutive term in 200 years. He has served as past Chair of the Southern Governors Association, the Democratic Governors Association, and the National Governors Association. As a strong advocate for higher education, he led the Higher Education Reform Act and Bucks for Brains funding for endowed chairs and professorships. Job creation, economic development, and education were major issues he addressed during his governorship at the state, regional, and national levels. Subsequently, he has served as President of Pikeville University and is currently Chancellor and Distinguished Visiting Lecturer in Public Policy and Leadership.
