James Higdon, a native of Lebanon, Kentucky, attended Centre College, Brown University, and the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism. As a freelance journalist, he covered marijuana policy and economics of the coal industry for POLITICO Magazine. He also freelanced for the Washington Post when news broke in Kentucky. His first book, The Cornbread Mafia, was published in 2012. His second book, The Nearly Forgotten History of Portland Kentucky, was published in 2018. Now, he is the co-founder of Cornbread Hemp Co., which makes CBD wellness products from Kentucky-grown hemp.
